Biography:

Jan Cybis (1897-1972) - Polish painter, art theoretician and critic, educator; active in Poland, Germany and France. He studied at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Wrocław under the modernist painter Otto Mueller, and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Józef Mehoffer, Ignacy Pieńkowski and Józef Pankiewicz. During his studies in Kraków, he joined the Kapist grouping. With them, he left for Paris in 1924, where he stayed until 1931. After this episode, he returned to Poland permanently.
