Biography:

Jan Zamoyski (1901-1986), born in Kazimiera Wielka, painter and stage designer. Between 1921 and 1922 he studied at the Municipal School of Decorative Arts in Warsaw, and between 1923 and 1928 he studied at the School of Fine Arts under Tadeusz Pruszkowski. After his studies, he spent a year in Italy. He co-founded the Brotherhood of St Luke. In the 1930s, he created frescoes and decorations, among others, with Bolesław Cybis in the building of the Military Geographical Institute, took part in designing the interiors of MS Batory and collaborated on a series of paintings for the 1939 World Exhibition in New York. In September 1939, he fought on the Coast, then was a prisoner of Oflag II B Arnswalde. After the war, he worked as a stage designer and was active in the Association of Polish Artists. In the 1950s, he painted in the convention of Socialist Realism, later also taking up religious themes.
