Biography:

Tymon Niesiołowski (1882-1965), born in Lviv, son of Norbert and Cecylia née Dzikowska, painter, graphic artist and pedagogue. He studied in Lviv and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Mehoffer, Wyspiański and Axentowicz. He presented his early exhibitions already during his studies. He took part in the activities of avant-garde artistic groups, including the Polish Expressionists and the Group of Five. From 1926, he worked in Vilnius, teaching at the School of Arts and Crafts, and later at the Stefan Batory University, where he habilitated and became a professor. After the Second World War, he lived in Toruń, lecturing at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Toruń. He represented Poland at the Venice Biennale in 1960 and was the recipient of many awards and decorations.
