Biography:

Stanisław Borczyk (1907-1997), born in Sanok, died in London, Polish state activist in exile. Before the Second World War, he was a career officer. He took part in the September campaign of 1939, when he was taken prisoner of war and remained in Oflag VII A in Murnau until 1945. After the Second World War he remained in exile. He left the army with the rank of major (promoted 1946). He was an activist with the Union of Polish Craftsmen and Workers and a member of the Polish Socialist Party (PPS), head of the department for émigré affairs in the National Unity Executive (1970-1971), Minister for Émigré Affairs (1972-1973), Minister without Portfolio (1976-1978) and Minister of the Treasury (1978-1986), Minister of the Treasury (1986-1989). He was also a member of the Fifth (1973-1977), Seventh (1983-1988) and Eighth (1989-1991) National Councils of the Republic of Poland, President of the Supreme Chamber of Control in exile (from 1989). He was the last head of the chamber in exile and carried out its liquidation, ending his work as president on 8 December 1991.
