Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments.

The Catholic cemetery in Czarny Ostrów is located next to the municipal cemetery. It is an old cemetery. Several gravestones date to the end of the first half of the 19th century.

2019
The project was implemented in the form of a volunteer camp, during which 20 tombstones in the Polish-Ukrainian cemetery in Pomorzany were renovated.

As part of the project, a publication on the cemetery in Pomorzany documenting the effects of the project was prepared and published in Polish and Ukrainian. In addition, an exhibition was prepared showing the condition of the necropolis in Pomorzany before, during and after the completion of works, combined with a session on the social protection of cemeteries.

2022
The project consisted of 2 types of activities: artwork carried out with orphans from orphanages from Kharkiv, who, as a result of the war, found themselves in Pomorzany, and repair work on the cemeteries in Zakopane and Pomorzany, which are signs of the identity of these places. The project aimed to teach volunteers how to save sepulchral art, to sensitise the local community to the preservation of this kind of art and, above all, to involve children in these activities.

For a period of two weeks (30 July - 13 August), the volunteer camp involved the renovation of 15 tombstones in 2 Polish-Ukrainian cemeteries: in Pomorzany and Zakopane, and together with activists from the Pomerania Initiative Association, classes were conducted with children from Kharkiv and Pomorzany. An exhibition and a publication presenting the effects of the project are currently being produced.

2023
The axis of the project was twofold: art activities with the children of war - ars longa vita brevis - and renovation activities at the cemeteries in Zakarpattia, Pomorzany and Kharkiv which are signs of the identity of these places. The aim of the project was to teach Polish and Ukrainian volunteers how to save sepulchral art; to sensitise the local community and, above all, to involve the children of war in these activities in order to mitigate its tragic consequences.

At the Polish-Ukrainian cemeteries in Pomorzany and Zakopane, the Association has already worked socially in 2019, 2021 and 2022. Work remains there for years and they want to continue this work consistently. The same efforts await in Black Ostrów, whose residents have called on them for help.

The beneficiary has guided the work to involve all the children from these and surrounding villages in art activities, but also in heritage work, hoping to dispel the darkness of war and influence a common Polish-Ukrainian future.

2024
The project was a continuation of the work from 2019-2023. 2024 succeeded in renovating at least 26 Polish tombstones and 12 Ukrainian tombstones in the cemeteries in Zakopane, Pomorzany and Czarny Ostrow, which are signs of the identity of these places, signs of Poles, Ukrainians and supranational memory. In addition, art activities for children were carried out: mosaic workshops, stone sculpture workshops (local limestone), presentations of local monuments, an art competition on cultural heritage, activities at the cemeteries were adapted to the age of the children. Publications in Polish and Ukrainian on the effects of the project were also developed and printed. 55 volunteers took part in the activities.
