Biography:

Stefan Themerson (1910-1999), born in Płock, son of Mieczysław Themerson and Salomea Ludwika née Smulewicz, artist, filmmaker and poet. One of the most important concepts proposed by Stefan Themerson was semantic poetry, which was particularly popular among members of the French experimental literary group 'OuLiPo'. In 1929, he met the artist Françoise Weinles, whom he married in 1931. The couple formed a successful artistic duo who made five avant-garde films that went down as landmark works in the history of cinema.
