Polish Library in Paris in old photographs

The Polish Library in Paris, founded in 1838, is one of the oldest Polish cultural institutions abroad. It was founded on the initiative of Polish political émigrés, including Adam Jerzy Czartoryski, Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz and Karol Sienkiewicz. It is located at Quai d'Orléans 6 on the Isle of Saint-Louis, in a historic building that has become an important centre of Polish intellectual and patriotic life in France.

The library houses valuable collections relating to Polish history and culture, including manuscripts, books, works of art, documents and archives. It houses, among others, memorabilia of Adam Mickiewicz, Fryderyk Chopin and Juliusz Słowacki.

In the preserved archival photographs from the 1920s and 1930s, one can see the Library building, its architectural details, shots of the renovation work on the facade, and the plaques with inscriptions.
