Mieczysław Wróbel was active in Kabul from 1963 to 1967 and from 1971 to 1974, where he designed and built around 15 modernist buildings: the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Interior, an exhibition pavilion, a communications school and a nursing school, pharmaceutical plants, a municipal hospital as well as officers' dormitories and residences. His architecture was characterised by a modernist clarity of form that had a significant influence on the architecture of Kabul. His designs were created within the framework of a new concept, socialist in spirit and modernist in concept, for the reconstruction of Kabul, which had been carried out from the 1960s onwards according to principles developed in Moscow.
