Islamic Cultural Centre of Madrid

The Islamic Cultural Centre in Madrid, designed by Jan Czarny, Jolanta Singer-Zemła and Marek Zemła, was built as a result of the victory of a Polish group of architects in a competition held around 1979. The centre includes a mosque, school, library, exhibition halls, museum, auditorium, gymnasium, restaurant and café. The centre was officially opened on 21 September 1992.The mosque is the largest temple of the religion in Spain and its interior was inspired by the Mezquita, the mosque in Cordoba. The building complex covers an area of 12,000 m² and consists of four wings around a square courtyard, and the facades are covered in white marble.
