Cemetery in Hermaniškia

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).

According to Lewkowski and Walczak, "the church cemetery has a pentagonal plan and occupies an area of 0.4 ha, it is fenced with a stone wall with a brick gate on the western side. It is situated on a flat area surrounded by fields. (...) there are lindens and elm trees along the fence wall, the area around the church is overgrown with grasses. "According to the researchers mentioned above, ten 19th century gravestones remain in the cemetery. The oldest, 1835, belongs to Julia Rewkowska, née Chludzińska, and has the form of a columnar marble chapel with a cornice. The inscription reads: "TU SPOCZYWA / JULIA Z CHLUDZIŃSKICH / REWKOWSKA / ASSESOROWA SĄDU PITU OSZM. / ASKS PASSERS-BY / TO SIGH TO GOD R. 1835 MAY 29 DAY / BURIED". An interesting gravestone is set into the gable wall of the chancel, commemorating Stefania Wonsowicz. The inscription reads: "Ś. STEFANIA WONSOWICZOWA / LIVED 30 YEARS UM. 1879 / ASKS FOR 3 HAIL MARYS".

The active Catholic cemetery is located in the south-eastern part of Hermaniszki. It has a plan of an elongated rectangle and is divided into an old cemetery on the eastern side and a new one on the western side. It was established in the first half of the 19th century and is maintained in good condition. There is one gravestone from the first half of the 19th century and several from the second half. The oldest gravestone, from 1848, is on the burial place of Michał Zienkiewicz. The inscription on the stone stele reads: "Here lie the remains / OF MICHA£ ZIENKIEWICZ / WHO WAS FULL OF LOVE FOR GOD / AND HIS BLOOD - MOVED TO ETERNITY AT THE AGE OF 56 / 1849. FEBRUARY 2 D. / A MEMORIAL FROM (...)". The cemetery, however, contains the most contemporary gravestones.
