Cemetery in Humienowszczyzna

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Lewkowski and Walczak, "the active, rural Catholic cemetery is located by the asphalt road Humienowszczyzna - Dudki, 100 m south of the village buildings, on terrain slightly rising towards the north, surrounded by fields. It was established in the 2nd half of the 19th century on a rectangular plan, without division into alleys and plots. It is fenced with a wooden fence with an entrance on the west side and covers an area of 0.7 ha. The cemetery is dominated by burials from the 1st half of the 20th century. (...) The most common names in the inscriptions are: Rahoza, Jankowski, Kołodziński. The area of the cemetery is overgrown with pines and clumps of bushes. The state of preservation of the cemetery is good. "The oldest gravestone, from 1860, has the original inscription: "T. S. S. P. I. F. Ź. / L 35 U. 1860 R. J. 11 / D. P. O 3 Z. M. T. N. F." As the said researchers translate this means: "here rests a saint of memory, 35 years old, died 1860, J (the name of any month beginning with the letter J - january, juni, juli), on the 11th day, asking for 3 Hail Mary's." The following inscription is also noteworthy: "Ś. P. MARJA KALKOWSKA / BORN. 20 JUL 1901 / D. 23/ 1952. / PIOTR KALKOWSKI / B. 1908 R. DIED IN THE WAR. IN AN UNKNOWN PLACE / A MEMENTO FROM HIS SON".
