Pruzhany cemetery

The Roman Catholic cemetery was established in the early 19th century and is located in the south-western part of the city on Kafanova Street. The area covers approximately 1.3 hectares. A brick cemetery chapel, which once served as a church, has been preserved opposite the entrance to the cemetery. The cemetery contains many tombstones with an interesting historical and artistic layer.

The oldest is the tombstone of Fabjan Białobłocki from 1839, located in the north-eastern corner of the cemetery. In the same part of the establishment is the tombstone of the Paszkowski and Trembicki families from 1841, in the form of a high, cast-iron, broken column on a pedestal with casts of the Zadora and Ślepowron coats of arms. Next to it is an interesting cippus with blind arcades belonging to Paulina Żarczyńska, née Kiernożycka. Behind the cemetery chapel, the grave of Adolf Hlebowicz (d. 1863) has been preserved in the form of a mound of sandstone boulders topped with a cross. The cemetery also contains valuable tombstones from the 20th century, including a red sandstone slab and obelisk of Bolesław and Michał Czarnocki from 1935, signed 'A. Marcinkiewicz, Warsaw, Dzika 62". In the south-western part of the cemetery there are quarters of Polish soldiers killed in 1920 in the Polish-Bolshevik war. The necropolis is one of the most interesting preserved objects on the territory of the former Polesie voivodeship.

Documentation for the cemetery has been prepared (2 cards stored in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage). Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).
