Cemetery in Vsielub

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).

According to Anna Lewkowska, Jacek Lewkowski and Wojciech Walczak, the old Catholic cemetery has the plan of an irregular quadrangle and an area of 0.6 ha. It was established in the 1st half of the 19th century. Quoting from the aforementioned authors: "The oldest surviving structure in the cemetery is the burial chapel of the O'Rourke family, owners of Wsielub since the early 18th century. The chapel was erected in 1837. It is built on a rectangular plan, brick and plastered. In the front, there is a portico supported by four columns, and a gabled roof covered with sheet metal. "Noteworthy is the inscription from the tombstone of the Zwierko couple: "S. P. BELOVED OF MUSIC AND THE EARTH / LUDWIK ZWIERKO / LONG-TIME ORGANIST / IN WSIELUB / WALERIA ZWIERKO / Z CZECHOWICZÓW / PASSED AWAY AT THE THRESHOLD OF THE FIRST / WORLD WAR / TO THE MEMORY OF THEIR FAMILY".

There is also a new Catholic cemetery in Wsielubie. Lewkowski and Walczak report that it has a trapezoidal plan and a 0.9 ha area with a metal fence. It was established at the beginning of the 20th century. "There are stone gravestones embedded in the posts of the entrance gate, with inscriptions obliterated or very faintly legible. On some of the slabs legible dates, such as: "1838", "1848", "1883", on a few names and dates, e.g. "Jerzy Korszun died the year 1848". The slabs probably come from the old Catholic cemetery, located 100m to the west. The oldest burials in the cemetery are located along the path leading from the gate and date from 1910-1920. There are also tombstones of people who died tragically during World War II, e.g. Stanisław Mozolewski's tombstone from 1943."
