Zaslavl cemetery (Catholic "new")

Although the cemetery is called 'new' by the townspeople, it was established in the mid-19th century. It is heavily wooded and covers an area of just over a hectare. It is located in the eastern part of the town, not far from where the route branches off into two directions to Shepetovka and Slavuta. The entrance to the cemetery is from one of the side streets.

Zbigniew Hauser lists about 40 tombstones with the fact that several of them are nameless with inscriptions that are no longer legible. In addition, he could no longer find several tombstones during his second visit to the cemetery. The 'new' cemetery in Zasław was cleaned in 2012-2014 by young people from Polish schools participating in the programme 'Mogiła Pradziada Ocal Od Forgotnienia' under the patronage of the Lower Silesian Provincial Office in Wrocław and the Lower Silesian Superintendent of Education and Wrocław Television. Their work has resulted not only in weeding the cemetery, setting up fallen tombstones and renewing inscriptions, but also in finding more tombstones and compiling a list of readable inscriptions. The list consists of 57 items and is longer than the one compiled by Hauser. The oldest inscriptions on this list show that people were buried as early as 1812. There are also inscriptions from the 1820s and 1830s, which challenges Hauser's assumption that the cemetery was established around 1850 http://www.studiowschod.org.pl/rzaslaw2012.htm .

Zbigniew Hauser mentions as the most impressive in the "new" cemetery the marble tomb from the end of the 19th century of the marshal of the nobility of the Zaslavl district, Józef Beyzym, and his wife. This tomb is heavily damaged by an undermining. Another interesting gravestone monument is a cast iron "shattered" column located near the ruined cemetery chapel. It is the tombstone of Stefan and Jadwiga Niewirowicz from the early 20th century. There are also two signed monuments in the cemetery. A stone fluted column decorated with drapery and a wreath, made by Pruszyński of Lutsk, commemorates Jozef Paposz (d. 1913). On the other hand, the stone tombstone of Kazim Nowicki, who died in 1913, was signed by B. Ginter of Szepetówka, i.e. the stonemason Benjamin Ginter (cf. the cemetery in Szepetówka).

A documentation was made for the cemetery (1 cemetery card and 16 tombstone cards) stored in the MKDNiS. Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
