David Wajs (1908-1971), son of Joseph Mordka Wajs and Tauba Mirla Zinger, tanner (pareur de peaux). He lived in Paris, in the 20th arrondissement, at 12 avenue Gambetta. He was the husband of Sznajdla Getlicherman.

Mobilised between 1 September 1939 and 25 June 1940, he served in the 23rd Marching Regiment of Foreign Volunteers (23e régiment de marche de volontaires étrangers), recruited through the Seine central bureau (Bureau de recrutement: Seine bureau central). This information is confirmed by data from the Mémorial de la Shoah -Fonds UEVACJEA and the 'Mémoire des hommes' (defence.gouv.fr).

Naturalised in France by decree of 24 May 1947 with his wife and son Michel-Joseph (born 18 December 1942 in Lyon). At the time of naturalisation, the family lived in Bagnolet, Seine department (JO p. 4833).

Between 1937 and 1939, he was under surveillance by the French intelligence service (Sûreté), according to files in the National Archives of France (AnF 19940484/11, dos. 954).
