Biography:

Ferdynand Majerski (1832-1921), born in Dobroniów, sculptor. He graduated from a school in Tarnów, and then studied painting, sculpture and drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. After his studies, he worked in Galicia, including Lviv, and in 1867 settled in Przemyśl, where he ran a carpentry and stonework workshop. In 1867, he established an art, carpentry and stonemasonry workshop in Przemyśl, employing around 50 people, making it one of the largest in the region. He created mainly church furnishings and tombstones. His studio was located at 44 Juliusz Słowackiego Street.

His works include:

  • sculptures and renovations of temples - an altar in Zlotniki in Podolia, restoration of altars in the Armenian Cathedral in Lviv, woodcarving in the church in Kosienice,
  • participation in the restoration of the arch-cathedral basilica in Przemyśl (1880-1907), where he was responsible for the sculptures and his likeness was carved in stone on the façade,
  • works in the Church of the Holy Trinity in Przemyśl, the Church of Our Lady of the Scapular, the main altar in the chapel of St. Joseph in Kraków-Lagiewniki, altars in the Church of St. Anne in Kołaczyce, the Church of the Holy Trinity in Przemyśl, and the Church of St. Joseph in Kraków-Lagiewniki. Anna Church in Kołaczyce, the tabernacle in the Church of St Bartholomew the Apostle in Dębowiec, three altars in the Basilica of Our Lady of Weeping in Dębowiec (1912), the main altar, pulpit and choir in the Franciscan Church in Sanok (1887).

Majerski was also the author of tombstones, which can be found, among others, in the municipal cemetery in Przemyśl, parish cemeteries in Racławice and Rudnik nad Sanem and in the Central Cemetery in Sanok (tombstones of Hiacynta Truskolaska, Leopold Biega, Rev. Bronisław Stasicki).

In addition to his artistic activity, he was the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the craftsmen's advance fund. He died on 7 May 1921 and was buried in the Main Cemetery in Przemyśl (cemetery section 16). After his death, the studio was run by his son Stanisław Majerski, an architect, until the closure of the workshop in 1930.
