At the beginning of September 1939, Polish Army soldiers fought a battle with the Germans between the village of Horodyszcze (located on the main road from Sambor to Drohobych) and the Osikowiec forest, adjacent in its northern part to the Sambor - Drohobych - Stryj railway line. After the battle, the bodies of fourteen fallen Polish soldiers were buried in a mass grave in the village of Horodyszcze. After the Red Army entered the area on 17 September 1939 and the Soviet administration was organised, the inhabitants of Dublany obtained permission to move the bodies of the Polish soldiers buried in Horodyszcze to the Catholic cemetery in Dublany. The grave was not destroyed in the post-war period, but required permanent restoration, which was done in 2005. The work was financed by the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Remembrance. The grave, surrounded by a low curb, features a concrete obelisk topped by a cross. An inscription in Ukrainian and Polish is engraved on the obelisk. The content of the Polish part of the inscription is as follows: "Here rest / soldiers / of the Polish Army / fallen / in battle against the Germans / in September 1939 / Honour their memory!".
