Biography:

Jan Baczewski (1890-1958), born in Gryźliny, political and educational activist, member of the Prussian Landtag and the Polish Constituent Assembly.

He graduated from gymnasium in Braniewo and from an agricultural school in Olsztyn. In 1919, he led the Polish plebiscite campaign in Warmia and was a member of the Warmian People's Council. He co-founded the Union of Poles in East Prussia and the School Society in Olsztyn, which fought for the opening of Polish schools in Germany.

In 1922, he founded the Union of Poles in Germany, and was a member of the Prussian Sejm from 1922 to 1928. In 1939, he was arrested by the Germans and sent to the Sachsenhausen camp. After the war, he took up the post of mayor of Dębno and later became a member of the Legislative Sejm.
