Jan Stefan Giedroyć (1730 - 1803), inflant, then bishop of Samogitia. Servant of Bishop Masalskis, his support went to Vilnius (doctor of theology). Ordained priest, accepted a Vilnius parish, became prelate of the Vilnius chapter, archdeacon. 1763 consecrated as titular bishop of Sinone and appointed bishop of Vilnius saffron. 1764 exalted as bishop of Inflants and Piltene. When after 1772. After the division of the Lithuanian and Polish state, his entire diocese left for Russia, not wanting to swear to Catherine II, he went to Warsaw, where he was advisor-secretary to the king. In 1778, the bishop of Samogitia, Jonas Lopacinskis, died, and through the mediation of King Poniatowski took care of the diocese himself. He came to Alsėdžiai for a short time; he immediately left again for Warsaw, managing the diocese from afar in writing. His diocese manifested itself in sharing lucrative places and goods that he could not take for himself (mainly for his relatives), thus creating a "Giedraicz dynasty" in Samogitia. He held various positions in the Sejm. Much attention was paid to Šiluvai. Two priests appointed by him investigated miracles, and he himself, after receiving the necessary letters from Pope Pius VI in 1786, crowned the image of Mary Šiluvai with a golden crown on 8 November. 1802 he transferred the office of bishop to Juozapas Arnulfas Giedraitis . He then lived for some time in Alsėdžiai, where he died. He is buried in the crypt of the Bishop's Cathedral in Varniai .
