Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Lutsk

The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Lutsk is a 17th-century church that is one of the most important Polish monuments preserved in Volhynia.
The beginning of the church's history is connected with the arrival of Jesuits in Lutsk in 1604. Originally they worked at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, but already in 1608 a new monastery foundation was approved. The foundation stone was laid in 1610, while the consecration was done by Bishop Andrzej Gembicki in 1639. The design of the church is attributed to Giacomo Brian, who stayed in Lutsk from 1616 to 1619.
During the fire of 1724, the church was severely damaged. Paweł Giżycki, a Jesuit architect, worked on the restoration work. In 1773, the order was suppressed, the college was abolished and the church itself was handed over to the National Education Commission. After the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Lutsk burned down, the functions of the cathedral were taken over by the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. After World War 2, the church was converted into a museum. It finally returned to its function as a temple in the 1990s.
In 2021 the church was subjected to laser scanning, on the basis of which a geodetic-architectural inventory was prepared.
