Variants of the name:

Pavoverės Šv. Kazimiero bažnyčia

The wooden church, founded in the 18th century by the earlier owners of the estate from the Sorok family, bears the traces of a deep history. Its name, Sorokpol - Sorokpole, derives directly from this influential family. Although the current building, also wooden, is not an original structure, it continues the tradition of the place. Alwida Antonina Bajor, in her publication 'Piorun, the Red Lake', cites a document from 1775, which testifies to the involvement of Leon and Giertruda of Kleczkowska Sorok, colonels, in its foundation. The record speaks of a desire to "multiply the glory of God" and improve access to religious practice for local residents.

In the context of the clergy, the first known Sorokpol parson was Fr Adam Szotkowski, who drew up a description of the parish in 1784. Between 1803 and 1818, pastoral ministry was carried out in turn by Rev. Hieronim Bielawski, Rev. Bogucki, administrator Tomasz Kaminski, and then by Kazimierz of Gozdawa Godlewski, who was appointed parish priest in 1811.

A significant event in the church's history was the baptism there on 15th December 1867 of Józef Piłsudski, the future Marshal of Poland, and his seven siblings born in Zułów. The Piłsudski family's other five children were already born in Vilnius, underlining the links between this outstanding figure and the region.
