Biography:

Natalia Lach-Lachowicz (1937-2022), born in Zabłocie, intermedia artist, conceptualist, working in printmaking, painting, performance, experimental film, video, installation, photography and sculpture.

She studied at the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Wrocław (1957-1963). In 1970 she co-founded the art group, gallery and magazine Permafo. The artist was one of the pioneers of Polish conceptual art, and her works often dealt with issues of the identity of the artist and the woman.

In her work since the 1970s, she experimented with themes related to popular culture, mass media, pornography and consumerism, creating works that contested social norms and morality. She was associated with the international feminist art movement.

Following her death in 2022, the ZW Foundation in Toruń manages the Natalia LL Archive, collecting and preserving materials related to her work. The artist has also been the subject of controversy, particularly in 2019, when an installation from her 'Consumer Art' series was removed from an exhibition at the National Museum in Warsaw. After public protests, the installation returned to the exhibition.
