Palace in Zazulince

The text describes the Volyn village of Zazulince Wielkie, once owned by the Sapiehs. The history of this village is briefly recalled, as well as the question of the palace in Zazulince (Source: 'Ziemia. Tygodnik Krajoznawczy Ilustrowany', Warsaw 1910, no. 44, p. 14, after: Wielkopolska Biblioteka Cyfrowa).

Zazulińce Wielkie

In the Starokonstantynów district of Volhynia, the very large village of Zazulińce Wielkie, which once belonged to the huge Ostrog Ordynacja, became the property of the Sapiehs in the Kolbuszowa transaction of 1753, along with Bazalia, Krasiłów and other estates; they were given to Ignacy, Voivode of Mstislavl, and the Zazulińce remained in this family from 1763-1891. The palace, surrounded by a beautiful large park, still exists, with a chapel by its side.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Sapiehs' material position here began to waver. In September 1800, Franciszek Ksawery Sapieha, Voivode of Smoleńsk, gave his sons, who were the owners of the estate, a large chapel. In September 1800, having distributed to his sons all that remained to be distributed, he allocated Zazulince with two villages to himself, and on 30 January 1808 said goodbye to the world in Zazulince. His son Janusz (1775-1825) also died in Zazuliniec, followed in 1848 by his wife Honorata Młodecka of Verba; even before her (1843) their only son Marcin, childless, married to Brzostowska of Bia³ozórka, ended his turbulent and boisterous life, much loved by the local gentry.

Zazulince was shared by his two sisters: Domicela Saryuszowa Zaleska of Krzywastyniec in Podole and Anna, who died in her maiden state in Zazulince on 19 January 1891, a woman of great nobility and holiness. Now Zazulince is in the possession of the Saryusz Zaleski family.
