Jozef Padlewski, an architect and engineer, was a member of the design team responsible for the construction of the St Petersburg Polytechnic Institute complex between 1899 and 1905. During the construction of this new university, he was involved in the design and directed the drawing and construction work. In addition to the main university building, working with chief architect E. Wirrich, he designed and realised a number of buildings: the building of the chemical faculty (1900-1903), connected by the canteen building, the 1st and 2nd dormitories, the 1st and 2nd lecture buildings (1899-1904,1907), the building of the mechanical faculty with the main boiler house, the power plant, the scientific and teaching laboratory (1900-1902, together with Eng. Vladimir P. Tavlinov), a professorial residential building with a service annex (1901-1902), a residential building for office staff (1903-1904), a water tower for economic, scientific and teaching purposes with a laboratory (1902-1905), an infirmary with a pharmacy (1902-1903), and a bathhouse (1902) and a hospital (1906, jointly with V. Tavlinov).
