Cluj-Napoca's main square, Piața Unirii, features a monumental statue of King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary and Croatia, made of bronze by sculptor János Fadrusz and unveiled in 1902. The sculpture depicts Corvin on horseback, surrounded by four figures of distinguished Hungarian commanders and statesmen. Among them is Stefan Batory, Duke of Transylvania and later King of Poland. The design of the monument was awarded the Grand Prix at the World Exhibition in Paris.
