The bust of John Paul II in Bucharest commemorates the Pope's visit to the city, which took place from 7-9 May 1999. It was unveiled on 1 August 2011 and is located in the square named after the Pope, near the Apostolic Nunciature. The author of this work is Mirsad Begić, a Slovenian sculptor of Bosnian origin. The pedestal of the bust also bears the words from the Gospel of St John: "Ut unum sint" (John 17:21: that they may all be one), which is the title of one of the encyclicals promulgated by John Paul II.
