Conservation work on Polish tombstones in Zloczów and Liczkowce, Ukraine

Information about the object:
Cemeteries with Polish gravestone monuments.

The monument to Michael the Archangel commemorates the victims of the cholera epidemic that struck Lyatchkovce in 1830-1831 and, according to the inscription, brought death to almost 200 villagers. The obelisk has the form of a column topped by a statue of Archangel Michael, of which only the feet and a metal cross have survived to this day. Fragments of the shattered statue can be seen in the grass near the obelisk.

Completed works:
As part of the project, conservation work was carried out at 2 Polish cemeteries in Ukraine. The works included the following objects: a gravestone sculpture depicting the Madonna, a statue of a woman in the cemetery in Złoczów, and a monument to Michael the Archangel funded by Konstanty Zaborowski commemorating victims of cholera (cemetery in Liczkowce).

The aim of the task is to preserve unique Polish tombstones in cemeteries in Ukraine. To this end, conservation works will be carried out, which will have the effect of stopping further destruction of the objects and restoring their original qualities.

Funding: the Programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage "Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad".
