Information about the object:
The temple of St. Mary Magdalene. Queen of Heaven and Saints Lawrence the Deacon and Martyr Stanislaus the Bishop in Zhovkva was founded by Hetman Stanislaus Zhovkva. It was built in 1606-1618. Its erection was the fulfilment of the urban layout of the ideal city, realised in accordance with the urban planning thought of the Renaissance era.

Completed works:
The works carried out are a continuation of the programme aimed at restoring the original condition of the collegiate church in Zhovkva, which is invaluable to Polish history.

As part of the 2020 grant, work was carried out on the exterior of the church on a stone frieze, unique in the world, made up of triglyphs and metopes. The corners of the frieze are decorated with Polish eagles, while the metopes feature bas-reliefs depicting the praise of Polish arms and the bravery of compatriots.

The scope of works included: 4 metopes, 5 triglyphs, the cornice under and above the metopes and triglyphs, the windows, 2.5 capitals, and the conservation of the frieze surrounding the east sacristy and its 4 windows. The aim of the work was to restore the original form of the stone ornaments, clean them of dark build-up and protect them from further destruction.
