Church in Zhovkva.

Among the number of dilapidated historical buildings in the borderlands, which are in a state of decay and in need of hasty reconstruction, there is the parish church in Zhovkva, which is particularly valuable as the resting place of many eminent Poles. This church, as it is known, was built by hetman Stanislaw Żółkiewski. His head, bought from Istanbul, is buried here, and there are also tombs of his son, Jan Żółkiewski, Zofia Daniłłowiczowa, grandmother of Jan Sobieski, and Jakub Sobieski, father of King Jan.

The paintings, hanging in the church, depicting the battles of Sobieski's sons and others, are also of great historical importance. The church in Zhovkva suffered severely during the World War and has been waiting in vain for restoration, although its patron is the government. This issue has been recently raised by Lviv newspapers, and I hope their appeal will have the desired effect. It is unbelievable that a monument of this kind should be completely destroyed before our very eyes!
