Preparation of a programme for the revalorisation of the church in Luboml

Information about the object:
The church in Lyuboml is the oldest monument of Catholic sacral architecture in Ukraine. Founded in 1412 by King Władysław Jagiełło, it stood on the site of an earlier wooden church. Part of the presbytery probably dates from that time. The church was rebuilt in the 17th century with Baroque features; at a similar time a free-standing tower - the bell tower - was also erected. In 1945, the devastated church was converted into a salt storehouse. In the early 1970s, renovation work was undertaken, which caused further damage. In the following years, a sawmill operated in the building. The temple was returned to the faithful in 1992

Completed works:

2022
The project of the Foundation for Partnership in Central and Eastern Europe, carried out in Luboml, had a rescue character. The main result of the task was the repair of the roof of the Holy Trinity Church in Luboml.

As part of the first stage, documentation was drawn up. An amount of PLN 100 000 was earmarked for the preparatory and design work. and was preceded by consultations with Polish experts, who determined the direction and scope of the repair and conservation work. In addition, leaky sections of the roof were secured. Even before the task started, the roof was still in a critical condition. At a further stage, renovation and conservation work was required on the façade, interior plasterwork and the 17th century belfry standing nearby.

2023
The task is a continuation of work carried out since 2022 to prepare a comprehensive programme for the restoration and revalorisation of the Holy Trinity Church and bell tower in Luboml and to obtain permits from the Ukrainian administration for the repair and conservation work.

In 2023, expert assessments will be carried out on the church and belfry: structural and structural, dampness and salinity of walls, microbiological and mycological tests of the roof truss of the belfry, geotechnical opinion of the ground and water conditions of the foundation of the church and belfry. An architectural design for the restoration of the building will be prepared, along with branch designs. The documentation will be made in accordance with Ukrainian requirements and submitted to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine for permission to carry out the work.

Funding: Programme of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage "Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad".
