Biography:

Stanisław Widacki (1883-1940), local government leader, social activist, politician, MP, infantry colonel of the Polish Army, victim of the Katyn massacre. He completed his philosophical studies at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv. In 1912, he started working as a teacher at the C. K. Gimnazjum in Tarnopol. He was active in youth and teachers' organisations, as well as in the People's School Society.

During the First World War he served in the Austro-Hungarian army, fighting on the Russian and Italian fronts. After 1918, he joined the Polish Army, taking part in the defence of Lviv and the Polish-Bolshevik War. He was promoted to colonel in 1931 and retired in 1933.

From 1934 to 1939, he was mayor of Ternopil and a member of the Polish Sejm, where he was active in the budget committee. He served as vice-president of the Association of Cities of Lesser Poland and was active in the Camp of National Unity. After the outbreak of World War II, he was arrested by the NKVD and murdered in a Kyiv prison in 1940.
