The 2nd Infantry Rifle Division, which had taken part in the fighting in France since 1939, was ordered to evacuate to Switzerland after running out of ammunition. On the night of 19-20 June 1940, some 13,000 Polish soldiers crossed the Swiss border. They were interned by the local authorities and, until the end of the war, stayed in camps specially set up for them in various regions of the country and worked for the local economy.

Located in Sainte-Blaise is a rectangular marble slab with a brass divisional eagle designed by Bohdan Garliński and an engraved inscription in gilded letters reading "SOLDATS POLONAIS / 2. D.S.P. / A LA COMMUNE / DE ST. BLAISE / 1942-1944 / ŻOŁNIERZE POLSCY / 2. D.S.P./ GMINIE ST.BLAISE" commemorates the stay in the area of a group of about 300 Polish soldiers who lived near the Martini factory and Musinière street and worked for the local community. The plaque was funded by the internees and was originally located on the first floor of the corridor of the municipal headquarters building, but was not returned to its original location after renovation. It rests in storage, pending a decision on its future.
