Tytus Brzozowski. 12 cities - how the exhibition was created

The exhibition 'Tytus Brzozowski. 12 Cities' is on display at the Bolesław Biegas Museum (51 Jerozolimskie Avenue) from 15 June to 13 July.

We invite you to join us on a journey abroad in the footsteps of Polish heritage. The guide for this trip is the well-known Polish artist Tytus Brzozowski, who, on behalf of the Institute, created a series of paintings comprising thirteen paintings. Twelve works depict cities in various parts of the world and the places or objects in them that are material traces of Polish presence abroad. The final work is a collage of selected Polish objects from each of the painted cities.

The colourful watercolours show the cities selected by the POLONIKA Institute in the artist's characteristic way. Tytus Brzozowski created thirteen works telling the story of the Polish presence abroad as part of his collaboration with the POLONIKA Institute. His artistic practice made him the perfect candidate to co-create a project about cities in which the centre of gravity was shifted from iconic buildings to the many objects that are part of Poland's cultural heritage abroad.

Brzozowski's distinctive style and his view of urban space made it possible to combine selected sites in each city in an intriguing and imaginative way. The juxtaposition visible in the paintings not only reveals a surprising number of objects, but also points to historical contexts and connections between them. Few people know how many important places for the Polish community are located outside the country.
