Biography:

Wacław Michał Kuchar (1897-1981), born in Łańcut, son of Ludwik and Ludwika née Drzewiecka, versatile sportsman, representative of the country in ice hockey, football, athletics and speed skating. Olympian of 1924, lieutenant of artillery in the Polish Army.

Connected all his life with Lviv's Pogoń, with which he won the Polish championship four times. In 1922, he became the top scorer. He represented Poland in football at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris.

In ice hockey, he was one of the initiators of the section in Pogoń Lviv, winning numerous titles with the team, including the Polish championship in 1933.

Kuchar was also a Polish champion in athletics, specialising in hurdle running, triple jump, high jump and decathlon. He represented Poland at many international competitions and set records. In speed skating he won 22 Polish championship titles and competed at international championships.

After World War II he lived in Bytom, where he was involved in the activities of the Polonia Bytom club. He worked as a coach, referee and sports activist, leading, among others, the Polish national teams in ice hockey and football. He became a coach of Legia Warsaw, as well as Polonia Warsaw. In recognition of his merits, the Wacław Kuchar Cup competition is organised. In 2011, a school in Bytom was named after him, and in 2015 his star was unveiled in the Avenue of Sports Stars in Władysławowo.
