Biography:

Władysław Lam (1893-1984), born in Konjic, son of Romuald and Olga (née Jarosiewicz), painter, graphic artist and art critic. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Teodor Axentowicz and Józef Mehoffer. After the First World War, he taught drawing in schools, from 1922 he was artistically and pedagogically active in Poznań, later in Lviv, where he headed the drawing department at the Technical University. In 1930, he co-founded the Krakow "Awangarda", and was also associated with Jednoroż and the New Generation. After 1945, he settled in Gdansk and co-organised the Faculty of Architecture at the Gdansk University of Technology and the Sopot Art School. He painted figural compositions, landscapes and architecture, and wrote about art.
