The text, accompanied by several photographs, mentions the competition to design a monument to Franciszek Smolka. The winning sculptures are presented, including the one that won the competition (Source: Tygodnik Illustrowany, Warsaw 1911, Half Year II, p. 534, after: Digital Library of the University of Łódź).

Monument to Franciszek Smolka in Lviv.

A few days ago the competition for the project of a monument to the brilliant Polish parliamentarian Franciszek Smolka, to whom Lviv in particular owes so much, was resolved. The first prize (1,000 crowns) was awarded to Jan Raszka, professor of the industrial school in Krakow, the second prize (300 crowns) was won by Zygmunt Otto, sculptor from Warsaw, the third prize (200 crowns) was awarded to J. Nalborczyk, professor of the industrial school in Lviv, and the letter of commendation was awarded to the sculptor Tadeusz Błotnicki. The design by Jan Raszka, modest, simple, unsophisticated, is characterised by an excellent depiction of the figure of Franciszek Smolka and a good solution of architectural lines. It too will probably stand on Smolka Square.
