Biography:

Zbigniew Pronaszko (1885-1958), born in Derebczyn, son of Franciszek and Felicja Bona née Sawicka, sculptor, stage designer and painter, associated with Formism and Colourism. In 1905, he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Kyiv, and between 1906 and 1911, he continued his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In 1917, together with his brother Andrzej Pronaszko and Tytus Czyżewski, he founded the Polish Expressionists artistic group, later renamed the Formists. He was actively involved in theatre - he designed scenery for the "Reduta" and Wojciech Bogusławski theatres in Warsaw, and in 1933 he co-founded the Cricot theatre. He taught at the Ludwika Mehoffer's Free School of Painting in Krakow, as well as at the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius. After 1945, he was associated with the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where he served as rector from 1949 to 1951.
