Monastery complex of the Order of Discalced Carmelites in Berydov

The monastery complex of the Discalced Carmelites in Berdyczów was founded by Janusz Tyszkiewicz as a votive offering in thanksgiving for his release from Tartar captivity. The foundation was approved on 10 November 1630. In 1642, the lower church was solemnly consecrated. Having repeatedly left and returned to Berdyč, the monks started the construction of a new church designed by Jan de Witte in 1739. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the monastery was not only the centre of religious life, but also of cultural and charitable activities. In 1866, the monastery was suppressed.
