Cemetery in Tartakov

The Tartakov cemetery is located in the southern part of the town, among the fields, about one and a half kilometres from the former parish church. It was established at the beginning of the second half of the 19th century, as can be deduced from the inscriptions on the surviving gravestones.

A winding, bumpy path leads to the necropolis. The part of the cemetery with inscriptions in Polish is still active, but very neglected. Many tombstones are broken or have obliterated inscriptions. The further part of the cemetery is dominated by tombstones with inscriptions in Ukrainian.

According to Hauser, the necropolis lacks tombstones of particular artistic value. In the centre is a chapel from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, built of stone with brick, with neo-Gothic features (three pointed arcades in the facade). Near it stand the tombs of the Szeremets and Klimowiczs, with extensions and niches.

One of the more impressive monuments is an obelisk in a cast-iron enclosure on the grave of Rozalia Hassmann, née Hermannsdorfer (d. 1879). Hauser also mentions a stone monument on the grave of "young Jan Dubski who died in the 14th century of his life 1885".

Documentation has been made for the cemetery (1 cemetery card and 38 tombstone cards) stored in the ICDNS. Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
