Biography:

Erazm Kretkowski (1508-1558), son of Mikołaj Kretkowski and Anna Pampowska. He had four brothers: Lasota Kretkowski (castellan of Bydgoszcz and kruszwicki), Grzegorz (castellan of kruszwicki, brzeskokujawski, voivode of brzeskokujawski), Andrzej and Mikołaj. Erasmus studied in Padua. He was a deputy to Sigismund Augustus. At that time, he travelled extensively, including to Cairo and India. In 1538, he became castellan of Brest-Kujawy. In 1546, he became starost of Pyzdry. The epitaph for Erazm's grave was written by Jan Kochanowski, in which the poet praises his travelling experience, curiosity about the world and exploratory spirit.
