Biography:

Leopold (Lejb) Pilichowski (1869-1934), Polish painter of Jewish origin. He initially studied under Wojciech Gerson at the Warsaw Drawing Class, then at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, then at the Académie Julian in Paris. From 1914, he settled permanently in London, where he died in 1934. He was a realist painter, most often using the oil technique. He mainly painted portraits, rural landscapes and genre scenes related to Jewish themes. He was a promoter of Zionism, and was one of the first Polish painters to seek a Jewish national identity.
