Biography:

Stanisław Leszczyński (1677-1766), born in Lwów, son of Rafał Leszczyński and Anna Leszczyńska, née Jabłonowska. Twice king of Poland (1704-1709 and 1733-1736), ruler of Lorraine and the Duchy of Bar. In 1696, he became a non-garden starost. With the support of Augustus II the Strong in 1697, he became Grand Chamberlain of the Crown. In 1699, he became governor of Poznań. He was a delegate of the Warsaw confederation formed against King Augustus II the Strong. On 4 October 1705, he was crowned king of Poland in Warsaw. During his reign, the struggle against the Swedish occupation continued. In 1725, his daughter, Maria Leszczyńska, was married to King Louis XV of France, which strengthened Leszczyński's influence in France and helped his re-election, through which the war for the Polish throne ensued. He wrote many books and produced several translations. He was a well-read man and was interested in philosophy. He died as a result of burns to his body in 1766.
