Biography:

Karol Beyer (1818-1877) - Polish photographer, numismatist; active in the lands of the Republic under the Partitions of Poland, France. He received his education in the Factory of bronzes, lacquered sheet metal products and other metallic castings, belonging to his uncle - Karol Minter. In 1844, he acquired the photographic workshop in Paris, although his earlier attempts at taking photographs from 1842 are known. After returning to his native Warsaw, the following year he opened the "Daguerrotype Workshop of Karol Beyer in Warsaw", specialising in portrait photographs, which operated until 1867. From around 1846, he made calotypes, and from 1851 he used the wet collodion technique, which he became familiar with during his expedition to Paris and London. In 1855 he joined the Société française de photographie . At the end of the 1850s, he began making prints of photographs using lithography and woodcuts.
