History of the Parish of Davidov and the Parish Church of St Stanislaus
The history of the village of Davidov, situated in the vicinity of Lviv, dates back to the beginning of the 15th century. The parish is not much younger than that, having been founded in 1439. Initially, the parish belonged to the Lviv deanery. From 1659, the pastoral care in Dawidów was taken over by the Dominicans, who looked after it until 1815. After that, lay priests led the parish until the 20th century.

The structure of the first parish church was wooden. Before 1600, however, it was replaced by a masonry structure, funded by an unknown founder named Dawidowski. Further information about the building comes from the early 18th century and mentions the existence of three altars in the church. However, we know that in 1741 there were already five altars in the church in Dawidów: the main one, St Stanislaus, St Michael the Archangel, St Catherine, St Mary and St Barbara. The temple was also equipped with a pulpit, organ and pews. The records of the deanery visitation, which took place twenty years later, again recorded only three altars, two of which (the side altars) were painted on the walls. The wooden main altar had a painting depicting St Stanislaus.

The Church of St Stanislaus in Dawidów was consecrated only in 1774. At that time there were again only three altars, of which two (side) altars were painted on the walls, but had paintings painted in oil on canvas (these were paintings depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Virgin Mary).

In 1785, the Austrian authorities commissioned an inventory of the church, when a similar state of furnishings to those of 1774 was noted. In the same year, the Austrian authorities confiscated the silver infusion from the painting depicting St Stanislaus, and in 1810 the church silver (the lower parts of the monstrance, tinsel, silver chalice and cross) was confiscated. In 1816 it was recorded that almost all the silver was given to the monetary office.

Reconstruction and history in the 20th century
The later fate of the church is unclear. We know that in the 1930s the church was rebuilt on the initiative of Father Sadowski - the building was extended at the front (the nave received three more bays) and a new vestry was built. Although the main part of the extension was completed in 1934, finishing works continued until 1937.

After the Second World War, in 1946, Father Sadowski left Dawidów for Legnica. Most of the church furnishings were moved to the Holy Trinity Church. In the following decades, the church was abandoned and now serves as an Orthodox church. The furnishings taken away after 1946 have not been found to this day.

Architecture
The brick and oriented building of St. Stanislaus Church was built of broken stone and brick. It is located in the centre of the village, on a small hill. The building consists of a five-bay nave and a lower and narrower single-span chancel, to which two rooms containing the sacristy were added. The nave of the church has a cross-shaped vaulted ceiling, while the chancel has a barrel vault.

The west bay of the nave has a choir supported by two pillars. The space below the choir is occupied by a porch and a storage room.

The church has a single-storey and tripartite façade surmounted by a gable. Its central field is risalitic, with a portal at the bottom. The nave facades on the other sides are topped with a profiled cornice, as are the facades of the chancel.

The nave of the church is characterised by a high gabled roof, while the chancel and annexes have multi-pitched roofs. All are covered with sheet metal.

Next to the church is a free-standing brick and plastered bell tower.

Equipment
Today we know the former furnishings of the church only from archival records. After being taken to Silesia after World War II, it could not be found.

An inventory of the church from the end of the interwar period, in accordance with earlier accounts, mentions three altars: a wooden main altar of neo-Gothic forms and two side altars, which were painted on the walls. They had oil paintings depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Virgin Mary and were decorated with stucco sculpture.

Other church furnishings include a wooden neo-Gothic pulpit, an organ, three feretrons with oil paintings on canvas and one with a wooden sculpture, and an oil painting of St Teresa with Child. The parish church of St Stanislaus also had a polychrome wood carving depicting the Risen Christ and a terracotta carving depicting St Anthony.

The silver owned by the church was mostly confiscated by the Austrian authorities at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.
