Polish House in Schodnica

The text mentions the construction of the Polish House in Schodnica, which was set up on the initiative of the Riflemen's Association. More than 13,000 zlotys were collected for this purpose, and from this sum it was already possible to erect stone foundations on concrete, timber framing of the building and a roof covered with galvanised sheet metal (Source: "Wschód", Lviv 1938, no. 73, p. 3, after: Jagiellonian Digital Library).

A modernised reading of the text.

New important institution
Polish House in Schodnica

On the initiative of the Schodnica Riflemen's Association, the construction of a Polish House began in Schodnica. Back in 1933, a Construction Executive Committee was formed, made up of members of the Riflemen's Association and the TSL. The generosity of the local population in understanding the purposefulness of the construction yielded appropriate results. A total amount of 13 989 zl 05 gr has been collected so far. In addition, the companies: "Gazy Ziemne" Schodnica, "Polmin" Drohobycz, "Godula" Chebzie, Majdan Forestry Board and Lindenbaum Estate Board, Kropiwnik Nowy, have donated various building materials in appropriate amounts. So far, before the onset of the current winter, the foundations of the stone on concrete, the timber bonding of the building and the roof, which was covered with galvanised sheet metal, have been completed, and finally, because of the winter, the masonry of the fire wall has been interrupted. The cost estimate for the entire construction was calculated at 49 246 PLN 23 gr. The building will house the following organisations: Rifleman's Association, People's School Society, LOPP circles, Polish Red Cross circles, Maritime and Colonial League circles, Reservists' Union, Reservists' Family, Union of Former War Volunteers and others. Building plots for the construction were donated by the company "Gazy Ziemne" and the municipality of Schodnica, with a total area of 2,327 square metres. The Executive Committee consists of the following: cl. Stefan Zambełli, chairman, Stefan Heller, secretary, the head of the committee, and the chairman of the committee. Jozef Dabrowski as treasurer and members Julian Hansmajer, manager. Stanisław Frydrych, the mayor of the municipality Dr. Stanisław Sławek, Eugeniusz G. Lutkiewicz, and the head of the committee Mr. Stefan Freudenberg. The chairman of the Audit Committee is Mr Władysław Górecki, director of the company "Gazy Ziemne" in Schodnica. In its work, the Committee enjoys the highly valued support of Lviv's Deputy Governor Tadeusz Chmielewski, M.A., Corps Commander General Michał Tokarzewski-Karaszewicz, MP Dr Bronisław Wojciechowski and Starosta Emil Wehrstein, M.A. The campaign to build a Polish House in Schodnica deserves the warm support of the public. The building season is already approaching, and further funds are needed to complete such an important new facility.
