The text describes a manor house located in the village of Wielick in Volhynia. The village formerly belonged to Prince J. Sapieha and later passed into the hands of the Łada-Robaczewskis. A physical description of the manor and its surroundings follows. Also mentioned are the rooms in the building and the issue of the manor archive (Source: "Ziemia. Tygodnik Krajoznawczy Ilustrowany', Warsaw 1911, no. 6, pp. 3-4, after: Wielkopolska Biblioteka Cyfrowa).

A modernised reading of the text

Manor house in Wielicko.

In Volhynia, in the district of Kowel, lies the old village of Wielick, which once belonged to Prince Józef Sapieha, the head of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and since 1784 has been the property of the Łada-Łobaczewski family. The Wielick manor house, the view of which is given here, built in the middle of the 18th century, with its characteristic mansard roof, is an interesting monument of old timber construction in Poland; the outside has so far been relatively well preserved, while inside it is already heavily damaged and in decline.

The porch, which is shown in the attached engraving, is a later addition, but was made according to the remaining traces of the old driveway. The plan of the house is very comfortable, the rooms spacious, the grand ballroom, 6 fathoms long and 5 fathoms wide, could accommodate 100 dancing couples. On the first floor there were several rooms no longer occupied, there was a theatre and concert hall. The manor house in Wieliczka was built as a hunting lodge, as it only had a couple of cookers made of Danzig tiles, while other rooms had fireplaces reaching up to the ceilings, of which only one unfortunately survived in its former state, while the others underwent later alterations and lost their original appearance.

So far, the names of the rooms have been preserved: blue, gold, billiard, Chinese; the latter, until 10 years ago, had nice wall paintings on canvas depicting scenes from Chinese life and customs. This room had a lovely fireplace, wood-lined; it is a pity that the decoration was not preserved during the alterations. The height of the rooms was 390 cm, while the door was very low, only 213 cm high. The entrance to the upstairs is comfortable, the staircase decorated with a nice railing. Behind the manor house is a park with old maple and lime avenues.

In the manor house archives there is a map of the former Viennese principality, encompassing several surrounding villages, and a copy of a deed from 1526, confirming various privileges granted by Grand Duke Svidrigiello Olgierdovich to Viennese Prince Gregory Konanovich. The deed is written in Ruthenian, the copy lacks a signature - from the content and date, it can be inferred that the original was signed by King Sigismund the Old. At present, the following estates remain in the hands of their previous owners: Wielick and Janówka - Łada-Łobaczewscy and Kuchary - Różański; the rest of the estates partly passed into Russian hands and partly were parcelled out.
