Manor house in Worończa

The manor house in Voronocha, in the Novogrudok district, situated 28 versts from Novogrudok, is one of the most beautiful monuments of old wooden architecture in Poland. The date of its erection is not precisely determined. However, it is believed to have been built during the reign of Stanislaw August by the last Novogrudok voivode, Jozef Niesiolowski, who decorated Voronichy with other beautiful buildings and in 1781 erected a brick church dedicated to St Anne.

Voronichy and Voivode Niesiołowski are mentioned by Mickiewicz in "Pan Tadeusz". The voivode, disgusted by a copper hare hunt, says:

"What would the Niesiołowski voivode say, Who has the first hounds in the world so far, And keeps two hundred riflemen by lordly custom And has one hundred carts of nets in the Voronch castle. And for so many years has been sitting, like a monk, in his court.".

Voivode Niesiołowski survived not only the collapse of the Commonwealth, but also the Napoleonic wars, and died in Voroncha in 1814. His son, a general of the Polish army, after his father's death exchanged Voronichy with General Florian Kobyliński for an estate in the Kingdom. Then the estate, covering over a hundred acres, passed into the hands of the Mierzejewskis, and finally, by a bequest, to the Lubanski family, who are the current owners of this beautiful estate. The beautiful manor house, built from wood amidst a magnificent park, contains relics of the past and is an ornament of the area.
