On the Place Albert in front of the town hall in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne stands a fountain of the Faun spraying water on a satyr by the French sculptor with Polish roots Henri Proszynski (1887-1968). The humorous scene depicting mythological figures is lined with eroticism.

The sculptural group, carved in stone, consists of two allegorical figures in the art déco style: a young, smiling, kneeling Faun (goddess of fertility and harvest, sister and wife of the god Faun), trying to use a stream of water to chase away a satyr (a forest demon, goddess of fertility, associated with the male sex drive, known for seducing and raping nymphs), who is standing next to her. The figures are separated by a basin, providing Fauna with a secure position against an unwanted admirer.

The realisation, which shows compositional similarities with a second fountain inspired by Greco-Roman mythology by Proszynski presented at the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Art and Design, was probably created in the first decades of the 20th century. During this period, the region witnessed a hitherto unknown development of plumbing-related infrastructure. The fountains, whose forms were inspired by current trends in art, had a purely decorative function. Like their predecessors, they no longer served the purpose of supplying running water to the local population. They were used primarily as landmarks in space, meeting places, designed to attract the attention of passers-by.
