During the Polish-Ukrainian War in 1918-1919 and the Polish-Bolshevik War in 1919-1920, the city changed hands several times. Finally, the Poles took Ternopil on 19.09.1920.

. A large number of soldiers' graves remain in the cemetery from the period of these battles. The fallen were buried in separate sections according to religion and nationality. Documents from 1918-1919 attest to the burials of, among others: NN colonel, NN sergeant, 4 NN privates, gendarmerie commander Jan Żak, sergeant Franciszek Mendruń, platoon sergeant Emil Podgórc, private Stanisław Maruda, private Edward Grenda, private Andrzej Mazur.

On 16.05.1929 the bodies of soldiers killed in battles with Ukrainians and buried in other places were exhumed to the cemetery. Among them were Sergeant Jozef Bochniewicz and Captain Piotr Muraszko, commander of the 12th sapper company.

The graves of Bochniewicz and Muraszko have been preserved to the present day.

The inscription on Muraszko's grave reads: "Here rests the corpse / of a student of the Lviv Polytechnic / 4th semester / Knight of the Order of Virtuti Militari / Captain / Piotr / Muraszko / Commander of the 12th campaign of borderland sappers / who died a heroic death at the capture of Bar / on 27 April 1920 // In the name of the Fatherland we pay tribute to you, colleague / Officers and soldiers of the 12th Sapper Baon / This monument will be erected / by the Commander of the Sapper Baon / Capt. Witkowski".

The inscription on Bochniewicz's grave is partially obliterated and the following can now be read: "The late / Jozef / Bochniewicz / Sergeant of the 3rd Baon [...] / [...] / in R. 1920 / lived 25 years / Honour his memory / To his son - Mother".
