Graduate of the First B. Nowodworski Secondary School in Kraków. In 1969 he graduated with honours from the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology. Until 1972, he was a researcher in Professor Witold Cęckiewicz's department, where he worked on the design of the new Cracow University of Technology in the Czyżyny district and participated in architectural competitions: Agricultural Academy in Lublin, Drasche Grun - housing estate in Vienna. In 1970 he received, as co-author, the first prize in the international competition for the World Exhibition WIG-74 in Vienna. During his time in Vienna, he worked in the office of 'Prof. G. Lippert Arkitekten' on the design of a residential building on the Ringstrasse.

In 1972, he and his wife Barbara Vogel, an architect, went to Finland, where he opened a doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Architecture in Otaniemi/Helsinki. In Helsinki, he worked in the office of 'Kari Virta OY' on the design of the new University of Oulu and led the design for the international competition Calabria University in Cosenza, Italy. In 1974, he worked in the office of Ola Kivinen OY and received, with his team, the first prize for the Nastola-Rakokivi housing estate in Finland. After winning a prize in a competition for the Linnamaki recreation centre and observation tower in Helsinki, he opened, together with Vezio Nava, his own architectural practice 'Nava Vogel Arkkitehtitoimisto'. He was admitted to the Finnish architects' union SAFA and to the Nordic architects' union NRA.

In 1976 he emigrated with his wife Barbara Vogel and daughter to Canada. He conducted graduate projects at the School of Architecture of the University of Toronto and worked in architectural offices. From 1978, he started working with The DuBois Pumb Partnership office in Toronto; he became a partner in 1983. He was co-designer of the new Canadian Embassy complex in China (1982) and the Oaklands Condominium housing complex in Toronto, which was honoured with the Governor General's Medal in 1983. Jacek Vogel is co-author of Souris Hospital in Prince Edward Island, Camp Hill Medical Centre in Halifax and many other buildings. In 1982 he was awarded a RAIC scholarship to study the architecture of the Far East - China and Japan. In Hong Kong, he worked with Prof Tao Ho's office on a design for an international competition for Victoria Peak.

He has been a lecturer and visiting critic at the faculties of architecture: Toronto University, Ryerson University, Design International Academy in Toronto. From 1989 to 2015 he worked as a professor at the School of Architecture, Humber Institute of Technology, Toronto. In 1982, he was admitted to the OAA (Ontario Association of Architects) and MRAIC (Royal Canadian Institute of Architecture). From 1987 to 1990, he led the design team at 'Zeidler Roberts Architects'. Major projects from this period were the Park Plaza Hotel extension in Toronto, the Sunnybrook Medical Centre, the Canary Warf extension in London.

In 1990, Jacek and Barbara Vogel founded their own architectural firm "Vogel Architects Inc." for the design of public buildings, flats, hotels and interior design. All projects created in this firm are co-authored by Jacek and Barbara Vogel. Many projects have been published in Canadian and international architectural magazines. In 1999, they received the Award of Architectural Excelence from the Ontario Association of Architects for their design of an experimental eco-friendly summer house. The office of 'Vogel Architects Inc.' has designed and realised a number of Canadian embassies: in Berlin, in The Hague, in Seoul. These projects were obtained through architectural competitions and executed in collaboration with other offices. An important project of the office was the Gebel Hammam Pharaon conference and hotel resort in Sinai, Egypt. In 2007, the Vogels' office won an international competition for the construction of the Southlands multi-purpose leisure and hotel centre in Bermuda.

In 2000, Jacek Vogel was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. For his contribution to the visual arts, he was awarded the 2012. Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal. Barbara and Jacek Vogel have established a scholarship for architecture students - the Arthur Erickson Travel Award - awarded by the Royal Canadian Academy since 2015.
